Even a new album by Bruce Springsteen may not be enough to toss Adele from the top of the Billboard album sales charts. The magazine reports that ‘Wrecking Ball‘ sold an impressive 200,000 copies in it’s first week of sales, but also that his tally is a few thousand fewer than Adele’s ’21.’

It’s too close to call at this point, so there’s hope for the Boss. It’s worth mentioning that the English singer’s album is going for her 24th week atop the charts, the first to do that since Prince & the Revolution’s ‘Purple Rain’ soundtrack in 1984 and 1985.

Springsteen topped Adele in her home country, however. ‘Wrecking Ball’ debuted at No. 1 in the U.K. selling 74K copies. It’s his ninth No. 1 studio album in the U.K., the first being 1984′s ‘Born in the U.S.A.’

The official chart numbers will be released on Wednesday. Springsteen is hoping for his 10th No. 1 album in the U.S., following 2009′s ‘Working on a Dream’ which sold over 224K copies during street week. Be sure to weigh in on where ‘Wrecking Ball’ stands amongst the all-time great Boss albums in our reader’s poll.
