Bob Dylan was awarded the Nobel Prize in literature on Thursday for work that the Swedish Academy described as “having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition.”

He is the first American to win the prize since Toni Morrison in 1993, and a groundbreaking choice by the Nobel committee to select the first literature laureate whose career has primarily been as a musician.

Honestly, I'm not a big Dylan fan but I know there are quite a few out there.  How do you feel about the committee by passing fiction writers again for the 2nd year in a row and decided to go with someone who was said by the director to "write poetry for the ear"?

It's whatever really.  I don't put too much stock in Nobel prize winners.  Never really have.  But I know I've seen some writer friends on FB and they're not too happy about the decision.

What do you think?
