Black Label Society’s Live Disc ‘Unblackened’ Streaming While Band Works on New Album

Liz Ramanand, Loudwire

Ahead of its Sept. 24 release, Black Label Society‘s ‘Unblackened’ live disc is streaming via Pandora Premieres (click here to listen). In the meantime, the band continues to work on a new studio album.

Frontman Zakk Wylde tells Billboard that ‘Unblackened’ isn’t simply an acoustic disc. “That’s why we called it ‘Unblackened’ instead of ‘Unplugged’ or some acoustic-type thing,” Wylde explains. “That’s not what it is. It’s not me just sitting around with an acoustic (guitar) or whatever, playing real quiet and pretty. This stuff is intense, too. And I’m playing piano. There’s some electric slide guitar. There’s a bunch of Marshalls for some of the choruses. It’s just another way to hear Black Label Society, y’know?”

‘Unblackened’ will be available in both DVD and CD formats. The double CD includes six additional tracks not found on the DVD, including acoustic versions of ‘Queen of Sorrow’ and ‘Won’t Find It Here’ and covers of Leon Russell’s ‘Song For You’ and ‘Ain’t No Sunshine When She’s Gone’ by Bill Withers.

As far as a new studio album, Wylde says since Gigantour ended, they have been writing every day. “It’ll have all the heavy riffs and other stuff everyone knows and loves,” Wylde reveals to Billboard. “‘Order of the Black’ was already three years ago, which is pretty insane. But the whole time we’ve been working, touring and stuff like that; it’s not like we’ve been sitting around the house. It’s crazy because back in the beginning of Black Label we were pumping out an album a year and constantly touring. But don’t mind doing it this way, either.”

Meanwhile, in addition to the advance stream of ‘Unblackened,’ a live video of one of the songs from the album, ‘In This River,’ also premieres today on Billboard. You can watch that here.
