Two-year-old stuck in a well? There’s an app for that.

Rescue workers in Mengzi City, China had the daunting task of freeing a toddler who had fallen into a 40-foot well. While they could hear the boy’s cries, they couldn’t really see him. This posed a problem when he kept slipping out of the adult-sized harness they had sent down the shaft.

Then one of the emergency service personnel had an idea: they would lower an iPhone with its camera running down into the well. This would give rescuers a better perspective of how they should position the harness around the terrified two-year old.

It worked like a charm, and the boy was freed. He was hospitalized but sustained no major injuries.

Now this is the kind of story out of China Apple would like everybody to be talking about.
