More than two dozen giant Gibson guitar sculptures designed in honor of the Doors, Motley Crue, Jimi Hendrix, Ozzy Osbourne and others have been decorating various spots on Los Angeles’ Sunset Strip for the better part of a year, and now those 20-foot-tall axes will be auctioned for charity.
Roger Waters could very well fall into the category of wealth dubbed the “one percent” that’s being targeted by Occupy Wall Street, but that isn’t stopping the Pink Floyd star from supporting the nascent New York-based socioeconomic movement.
Kiss are turning back the clock for the recording of their new album, ‘Monster,’ which should be out by the summer of 2012. The band is bucking the trend of using digital recording gear, opting instead for the retro experience of old analog equipment and a stripped-down approach. In other words, don’t expect any outside writers, extra keyboards or superfluous children’s choruses this time around.
The Rolling Stones classic ‘Sympathy for the Devil,’ specifically, the 2003 Neptunes remix, is being featured in promotions for the upcoming UFC Heavyweight Championship bout pitting current heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez — dubbed “The World’s Most Dangerous Man” — against the top contender, Junior dos Santos.
The mixed martial arts showdown, the first to be broadcast on network TV, will take place Nov. 12 in Anaheim, Calif.
Metallica‘s first trip to India isn’t turning out quite the way they had planned. The metal mavens were scheduled to play their first-ever concert there Friday (Oct. 28) in the city of Gurgaon, but after 20,000 fans turned up and became irate after waiting several hours for the gig to start, a stampede caused barricades to collapse. Promoters then decided to postpone the show until Saturday, and that announcement, in turn, caused several fans to riot, rushing the stage and causing damage to LED screens, monitors and other gear.
The Occupy Wall Street movement got a little entertainment from the son of a Beatle earlier this week when Sean Lennon descended on the encampment with some friends to offer up an inspiring revolutionary ditty for the masses. What did the son of John Lennon, and his buddies perform: ‘Power to the People?’ Nope. ‘Imagine?’ Not exactly. Try Madonna’s ode to unhindered capitalism, ‘Material Girl.’
Steven Tyler is “doing splendidly,” the Paraguayan dentist who treated the Aerosmith singer reports, and the band will perform Wednesday (Oct. 26) in the country’s capital of Asuncion, one day after a freak fall left him with a bloodied mouth that caused the postponement of a scheduled Tuesday gig there.
Guns N’ Roses‘ concert Sunday (Oct. 23) in Monterrey, Mexico, was stopped during the first song after crowd members began throwing unidentified flying objects onstage at the band. Singer Axl Rose halted the gig just one minute into their performance of ‘Chinese Democracy’ after the items were tossed onstage and Rose announced that they would leave if fans continued to “throw s—” at the band.
Judas Priest‘s Rob Halford and Ian Hill recently sat down with Ultimate Classic Rock’s hard-hitting brother site Loudwire for a lengthy chat, during which they talked about everything from new guitarist Richie Faulkner and the band’s current trek — possibly their last “major world tour” — to the ‘The Chosen Few’ compilation disc and plans for a new studio album.
If you think the popular rock ‘n’ roll legend that Gene Simmons has slept with 4,600 woman is a ridiculous farce, you’d be right — only, probably not in the way you’d expect. The number is even larger than that, the Kiss star claims in a new interview with The Sun. How much larger?
