Nobody Knows What They’re Saying in the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ Gag Reel
Gag reels are a gift given to us by the cinema gods. Who doesn’t enjoy beloved actors from a beloved series messing up their lines repeatedly while everyone else in the cast laughs at them? If a good blooper reel is the number one sign that production on a movie was fun, then Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 must have been a blast. Even if the actors thought some of the lines they had to say sounded kind of ridiculous.
John Boyega Says ‘The Last Jedi’ Gives Carrie Fisher a Proper Send-Off: ‘She Lives Forever in a Sense’
The biggest question going into Star Wars: The Last Jedi is how the movie will deal with Carrie Fisher’s passing. She had finished all of her scenes for the movie before her death last winter, but the series would be remiss if she wasn’t given a proper sendoff. We still don’t know if another actress will play General Leia in Episode IX, or if she’ll be somewhat written out of it, but John Boyega says she’s given her due in The Last Jedi.
Emilia Clarke Shares a Video of Chewbacca From the ‘Han Solo’ Set
It’s a big deal when you pass a follower milestone on social media. You feel like, finally, you’re being HEARD, you’re being SEEN, and, naturally, it warrants some kind of celebratory post to commemorate the day. But not all of us can celebrate with Chewbacca, the Chewbacca, by our side. Fortunately for Emilia Clarke, she can.
‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind’ 4K Re-Release Trailer: Those Five Musical Notes Will Still Make You Tear Up
Close Encounters of the Third Kind will forever be one of sci-fi cinema’s most lasting cultural touchstones. One of Spielberg’s best, it’s a beautiful tale of wonder, obsession, and humanity’s relationship with the rest of the cosmos. It’s the kind of movie that posits that, rather than conquer us, all aliens really want to do is be our friends, and it’s coming back to theaters this September in a gorgeous 4K re-release.
New Netflix Instant Releases: August 2017
It’s almost the end of the month, and you know what that means: new stuff is coming to a streaming service near you. Here is everything arriving to Netflix in August to keep you busy on one of those rainy late-summer nights.
It’s Man Against Nature and Flaming Bears in the ‘Only the Brave’ Trailer
When it comes to natural disaster movies, the bigger, the better. San Andreas was delightful in its boorish stupidity, The Perfect Storm is a stone-cold classic, and don’t even get me started on how excited I am for Geostorm. Man against nature is the oldest plot in history, which is why it’s about darn time we saw Josh Brolin play a firefighter.
New Amazon Prime Instant Releases — August 2017
It’s nearing the end of the month, which means it’s time for streaming services to start rolling out their new instant releases. August is an exciting month for Amazon Prime subscribers, as seasons of four original shows are debuting next month, not least of all is the first season of The Tick!
Don’t Drive a Car Right After Watching ‘Baby Driver’s Exhilarating Opening Chase Scene
Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver is already the director’s most successful film to date, with a $76 million worldwide take so far on a budget of $34 million. But the movie has yet to open in a bunch of countries, including Germany, Brazil, Japan, and more (it only just had its Australian premiere, courtesy of George Miller). So, to get more bods in theater seats, Universal has released the entire opening bank heist and car chase scene from the movie on YouTube. Even if you’ve already seen the movie, you gotta watch this again. And turn your volume up.
Watch Neill Blomkamp’s New Short Film ‘Zygote,’ Starring Dakota Fanning
Neill Blomkamp’s Oats Studios is taking a kind of diet approach to filmmaking: testing out concepts that could be cool by making short films out of them with bonkers-high production value. The first one, Rakka, introduced us to an Earth almost completely overtaken by some fabulously gross aliens, and a few days ago we got Sharlto Copley as a very cranky God. Today, Oats Studios has rolled out Zygote, which sees Dakota Fanning and Pablo Cantillo on the run from a truly terrifying monster.
Moms Have Some Funny Ways of Sneaking More Netflix Into Their Busy Days
While Netflix guards their viewership data like a jealous dragon, they’re certainly not averse to releasing plenty of other demographic information, such as what activities moms do while they’re watching their favorite female wrestling comedies. The streaming giant collected the data from an extremely scientific, randomly selected group of moms, who said they often had to make some “me time” for their Netflix (71%), and that they wished they had more time to watch the shows they love (97%).
Woody Harrelson Hangs Out With Han and Chewie in New ‘Han Solo’ Set Photos
We haven’t seen too much of the Han Solo movie, except for all that hot goss about why Phil Lord and Chris Miller left the project, but the set photos have been trickling in. Yesterday, a couple pictures surfaced from the set of our young Han (Alden Ehrenreich), Chewbacca, and Woody Harrelson’s mysterious character together and in costume on set.
Hans Zimmer Dropped an Intense Track From the ‘Dunkirk’ Score, and It’s Really Good
Hans Zimmer has become kind of the rockstar of movie soundtracks (I mean, he did literally play a set at Coachella this year). Zimmer’s been scoring Christopher Nolan’s movies ever since Batman Begins, so it’s no surprise that he’s back for Nolan’s World War II thriller Dunkirk, and man, is he back. WaterTower Music just released the fourth track off the score, titled “Supermarine,” and it’s intense.
