Dave Swanson is a writer and musician from Cleveland, Ohio. He has spent a lifetime obsessed with all things Rock & Roll.  Dave has written for a variety of publications including Shindig!, Bucketful Of Brains, The Cleveland Scene and The Cleveland Plain Dealer. He hosts his own radio show, has promoted concerts and played in several bands including, but not limited to, Rainy Day Saints, The Chamber Strings, The Cynics, New Salem Witch Hunters, Guided By Voices, Death Of Samantha, and Captain Groovy & His Bubblegum Army.   Favorite bands-Cheap Trick, The Monkees, Sparks, Motorhead, Beach Boys, Rockpile, XTC,Van Der Graaf Generator, Sweet, Bob Dylan,etc. Favortie color- paisley. 44 Years Ago: The Beatles’ ‘Paul Is Dead’ Rumors Hit the Papers

Paul McCartney is alive and well, but a well-placed rumor in 1969 had some thinking otherwise. On September 23, 1969, the Northern Star newspaper of Northern Illinois University published a story claiming that McCartney had been killed in a car crash a few years earlier and had been replaced by a look-alike. A radio station in Detroit picked up on the story and ran with it. Within a month, the story had gone global and Beatles fans worldwide were collectively scratching their heads.

45 Years Ago: Led Zeppelin Play Together for the First Time

It was this week in August, 1968, in a small space on Gerrard Street in the west end of London, Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones and John Bonham played together for the very first time. The first song the band -- which would later be named Led Zeppelin -- tore into was 'The Train Kept A-Rollin',' which was a fixture in Page's previous band, the Yardbirds.

After a second look, he corrects himself...'wait...the Italians are coming,' as he spies a fleet of new Fiat 500s rolling down the road. As the automobiles come into view, the unmistakable sounds of 'Children Of The Revolution,' the 1972 single from T. Rex, is heard charging full volume ahead.

40 Years Ago: Slade Play Two Sold-Out Shows at London’s Earls Court

Slade were just about at the peak of their powers in the summer of 1973, riding high with seven consecutive Top 10 singles in the U.K. The latest, 'Skweeze Me, Pleeze Me,' shot straight to No. 1. When the band hit the road, with openers the Sensational Alex Harvey Band, demand for tickets was so high, they scheduled two nights at the legendary Earls Court in London.
