If you're even tangentially into anime or tokusatsu, then you're probably already familiar with SH Figuarts, the high-end line of action figures from Bandai and Tamashii Nations, but if you're not, let me tell you how much I love them. They've been around for a few years now, and with their dedication to high levels of articulation, screen-accurate sculpts and an incredible amount of interchangeable hands, faces, and accessories, they're arguably some of the best action figures you can get --- and since most of their output has to do with Super Sentai, Kamen Rider, and Sailor Moon, I'm always keeping an eye out for their next big release.
And now, it looks like I've got to clear off another shelf. This December, as part of what I can only assume is a mission to target me, specifically, they're releasing the first two entries in a line based on late '90s WWE Superstars, starting with "Stone Cold" Steve Austin and The Rock. And yes: Austin comes with a beadazzled skull vest and a couple of Stevewiesers.
For some reason, everyone seems to be buzzing this week about Batman fighting people in the movies - even more so than usual, I mean. If that's the kind of story that's sparked your interest today, then friend, you could do a lot worse than spending the next six minutes watching Batman vs. Terminator, a stop-motion fan-film in which the Dark Knight returns in a future dominated by Skynet and its killer robots.
Produced by YouTuber Captain McKay - who I think we can assume was bitten by a radioactive McKay at some point in the past - the project uses Mezco's Dark Knight Returns Batman figure and NECA's Terminator figure, and the results are pretty amazing. Give it a watch!
Valentine's Day is just around the corner, so naturally, our thoughts have turned to comics' most infamous hotbed of love triangles: Riverdale, USA! For over 75 years, that idyllic town has been built around the eternal question of who makes the best couple, but we here at ComicsAlliance are not content to merely debate. We're here to settle this once and for all.
So today, join us as we turn things over to you, the readers, to help us decide the biggest, most romantic question of all: Who will reign supreme as Riverdale's One True Power Couple?
With a big-budget movie about their villainous hijinx hitting screens just around the corner, DC seems pretty keen to get people hyped up about the Suicide Squad, and you have to admit that publisher is doing everything it can to get people to jump on. There's the New 52 run ready to go, reprints of the classic '80s series in paperback --- all the way up to the original Deadshot miniseries --- and the next issue of the current New Suicide Squad series sees a new creative team kicking things off with a tour of Belle Reeve prison, so that we can all get on the same page with how this stuff works.
The team in question is Tim Seeley and Juan Ferreyra, and in New Suicide Squad #17, they've hit on a pretty interesting way of explaining the concept for new readers that hasn't actually been done before: Task Force X is franchising. Check out a preview below!
If you've been reading ComicsAlliance for long enough, then it absolutely will not surprise you to learn that nothing makes me more emotional than Pokemon. They're just so... they just want to be friends and to grow stronger through the firebreathing dog equivalent of martial arts! They just want you to be your best!
And that, my friends, is what Nintendo and the Pokemon Company are highlighting with their upcoming Super Bowl commercial. It's part of a year-long celebration of the franchise's 20th Anniversary --- Pokémon Red and Green made their debut on February 27, 1996 --- but it was released online today for all of us to enjoy. Give it a watch, but prepare to start sobbing.
Those of you who spend all your time watching superhero cartoons made for tiny babies (and by that I mean me) may have noticed that there was a half-hour special late last year called LEGO Justice League: Batman Beleagured. If you missed it, it was a very blocky origin story for how Batman joined the Justice League, and it was actually pretty great -- especially the twist ending.
Now, it seems that they're following it up with a second special, and this time, it's about Bizarro arriving in Metropolis and doing... well, exactly what Bizarro does every time he shows up, which is screw things up on a catastrophic level and terrify the populace. And apparently, that's just the tip of a mixed-up iceberg that's going to involve an entire Bizarro League.
If you want to kick off your weekend with some nice news that might just make you cry a little bit, you're in luck: Today in San Francisco, the Make-A-Wish foundation is helping a five year-old cancer patient named Miles live out a wish to become Batman. Thanks to the overwhelming support of volunteers, they've been able to send Miles on an adventure of rescuing citizens, battling supervillains and even getting the key to the city in an effort to give him the best day ever.
Even the San Francisco Chronicle has gotten into the act, printing a Gotham City Chronicle special edition that details Batkid's adventures, with stories by Clark Kent, Lois Lane, Brenda Starr and Perry White, apparently on loan to the West Coast from the Daily Planet. Check out the full page below, and get ready to awwww.
There are a lot of popular wrestlers in WWE, but there aren't a lot who come to the ring in T-shirts that were made for them by fans, swatting at bubbles being showered onto the entrance ramp by fans who brought their own bubble-guns to the arena.
