Sam Raimi Is Directing a Tornado Heist Movie, Which Is All You Really Need to Know
Sam Raimi hasn’t directed a film since 2013’s Oz the Great and Powerful, and though he’s been attached to a few projects over the past year, none of them have gotten off the ground just yet. But it looks like Raimi has added another potential directing gig to his plate, and it sounds like this one is right up his alley: a heist thriller that takes place during a tornado storm. Sold!
‘Transformers: The Last Knight’ Viral Teaser Promises…Something…On May 31
Transformers: The Last Knight recently (as in, like, two days ago) began filming in Cuba, with a small crew shooting a few scenes before principal production moves to Detroit on June 6. With that in mind, a new viral video for the fifth installment in the franchise is hinting at the arrival of something big on May 31 — which could very well be the first official teaser.
Andy Samberg Uses a Banana as a Telephone in NSFW ‘Popstar’ Music Video
If you’re a fan of The Lonely Island, then you’re probably pretty stoked for Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, which features a whole soundtrack full of new songs from the musical comedy trio. Leading up to the film’s release next week, we’ve already seen a few music videos featuring Andy Samberg’s fictional alter ego Conner4Real — including an amazing Bin Laden-themed video that debuted on SNL. Universal has released yet another obviously NSFW music video from Popstar, this time with a little freestyle action.
‘Wiener-Dog’ Trailer: Greta Gerwig Welcomes You to the Doghouse
It’s been a little over 20 years since we were first introduced to Dawn Wiener, the subject of Todd Solondz’s cult indie favorite Welcome to the Dollhouse. Although we were led to believe Dawn Wiener was dead in the Solondz Cinematic Universe (thanks to the opening of Palindromes), she’s very much alive in the new trailer for Wiener-Dog, the semi-Dollhouse sequel in which the infinitely charming Greta Gerwig takes on the role originated by Heather Matarazzo.
Another ‘Austin Powers’ Sequel Could Still Swing Its Way Into Theaters
Unlike most comedy sequels, the Austin Powers franchise only became more successful at the box office with each additional outing (sorry, Neighbors 2), with Austin Powers in Goldmember generating $300 million worldwide. It’s been 14 years since Mike Myers last donned the mop-top and spouted a bunch of delightfully cheesy innuendoes, and though we may not be any closer to a fourth Austin Powers outing, director Jay Roach says it could still very much happen.
SNL: Fred Armisen and Some Very Special Guests Start a ’70s Southern Jam Band
There were plenty of fantastic moments in SNL’s Season 41 finale, and while the last sketch of the night might not have been the most laugh-out-loud funny among them, it was definitely the most wonderful. Host Fred Armisen brought a few of his fellow SNL vets together along with a couple of special guests to form the perfect, subtly quirky ’70s southern jam band, complete with 20-something members and a tambourine or two.
SNL: Fred Armisen’s ‘Dead Poets Society’ Spoof Is Weirder Than You Could Possibly Imagine
SNL vet Fred Armisen returned to Studio 8H this weekend to host the Season 41 finale, and as you might expect, things got pretty weird. In between delivering the longest, most delightfully strange monologue in recent memory and reviving a couple of fan-favorite characters, Armisen starred in this pre-recorded spoof of Dead Poets Society. Riffing on a 27-year-old drama is certainly unexpected, but not nearly as unexpected as what happens at the end of this thing.
‘Alien: Covenant’ Set Photos Reveal Total Annihilation
Ridley Scott is currently filming Alien: Covenant in Australia, and while we have yet to see the first official image from the upcoming Prometheus sequel, Michael Fassbender has been offering up a few ideas of what we can expect — mostly in terms of production design, which he’s compared to Scott’s sci-fi masterpiece Blade Runner. But some new set photos have popped up online to give us our first real look at Covenant, and they are somewhat unnerving.
The Lonely Island Brings ‘Popstar’ to SNL With a Hilarious New Digital Short
It may seem like it’s been forever since The Lonely Island delivered a new Digital Short on SNL, but it’s only been a little over a year (which is like, eight years in Adult Time). In any case, Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone are back with their latest music offering, this one taken straight from their upcoming film Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping — which also happens to be an early contender for the best movie title of the year.
‘The Nice Guys’ Are as Boozy as a Railroad Hobo in This Charming Animated Promo
In keeping with the retro vibe (and setting) of The Nice Guys, the latest promo for Shane Black’s crime comedy reimagines the film as an old school animated series — the kind of thing you might have watched on CBS on a Saturday morning back in the ’70s. And while this promo is a little more kid-friendly, it’s still for a film that is most certainly not for kids (but it is for everyone else, and you should make time to see it this weekend).
‘Don’t Think Twice’ Trailer: Mike Birbiglia Takes You Into the Complicated World of Improv
A film about the world of improv comedy from Mike Birbiglia will be an instant must-see for some of you, but if you’re anything like me, the phrase “improv comedy” usually makes your eyes roll. If this trailer doesn’t sway you (and it should), then rest assured that Don’t Think Twice is an incredibly funny and surprisingly relatable comedy that might make you shed a tear or two.
‘Star Trek Beyond’ Trailer: The Enterprise Faces Its Boldest Threat Yet
If you weren’t particularly sold by the first trailer for Star Trek Beyond, then you may find the latest preview for Justin Lin’s sequel far more persuasive. It has a bit of everything: emotion, drama, epic intergalactic action, and Idris Elba as a menacing new villain unlike any the crew of the Enterprise has faced before. One thing is clear: this isn’t your average Trek mission.
