As I Lay Dying frontman Tim Lambesis was sentenced Friday in San Diego County to six years in prison in connection with a plot to kill his estranged wife, according to U-T San Diego.

Lambesis previously pleaded guilty to a felony charge of solicitation to murder.

The 33-year-old musician was arrested last May, accused of trying to arrange the killing of his estranged wife, Meggan Murphy, via an undercover detective who was posing as a hit man.

Lambesis’ lawyer argued that the singer’s behavior was driven by steroid use.

On Friday, Lambesis remarked in court to Murphy, “I do want to apologize and I do feel a sense of remorse.”
