Another year, another edition of the Grammy Awards. A bunch of great bands were given a Best Metal Performance nomination for the 2014 ceremony. Among the acts nominated are Anthrax, who received the nod for their cover of AC/DC's 'T.N.T.' We caught up with Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian on the phone to get his reaction to the nomination.

Along with Anthrax, Black Sabbath's 'God is Dead?,' Dream Theater's 'The Enemy Inside,' Killswitch Engage's 'In Due Time' and Volbeat's 'Room 24' (featuring King Diamond) were all granted nominations in the 2014 Best Metal Performance categort. With this latest nod, Anthrax have racked up five Grammy nominations in their career, but haven't taken home the trophy yet. The thrash legends were most recently up for the 2013 Best Hard Rock / Metal Performance award for 'I'm Alive,' but lost to Halestorm's 'Love Bites (So Do I).'

After we got Ian on the phone, was asked the guitarist how he heard about Anthrax's 2014 nomination. "Someone sent an email I was copied on," begins Ian. "It came in kind of late at night. It was a random email. I was actually getting ready for bed and it said, 'Congratulations on the Grammy nomination.' I had no idea, no expectation. I didn't even know we had something that was even able to be up for a Grammy this time around. [Laughs] I didn't really give it much thought at first, because I was literally going to bed. Then I woke up the next day to an inbox full of emails saying, 'Congrats on the nomination.' It was cool."

The guitarist continues, "It's number five for us, so who knows? As they used to say in football, 'one for the thumb.' I would love to just be able to say at some point in my life that we won a Grammy. For what it's worth, as a guy in a band, as a songwriter and a musician, it always means something to me to be recognized. Regardless of the fact that I don't really give a s--t about what anyone thinks of what we do as a band, I care about the people who buy our records. I can't help but feel good about it and the fact that people are recognizing what we're doing two years in a row, we've got to be doing something right."

The 56th Annual Grammy Awards takes place Jan. 26 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, airing on CBS.
