Just over half way through 'American Horror Story: Coven,' and series star Jessica Lange has made it abundantly clear her intent to leave with the confirmed fourth season's end in early 2015. And while casting for future installments of the FX horror-drama remains up in the air for now, series creator Ryan Murphy has some surprising choices for future stars in mind to fill the void, among them Reese Witherspoon, Michelle Pfeiffer and Michael Chiklis!

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Murphy revealed repeated attempts to cast Witherspoon in previous incarnations, saying "Well, every year I go to Reese Witherspoon. I want her to play something really twisted and f---ed up. But she's always booked." Murphy also identified Pfeiffer and Chiklis among the shortlist for future seasons, though not with any indication of what roles the Hollywood pair might take.

So far of the proposed fourth season, we know that 'Coven' stars Angela Bassett and Kathy Bates have been approached to return, while Jessica Lange went on the record to say "I want to have more time to myself I guess. Once it’s over and I have a full year ahead of me with nothing to do, who knows? It might not have been the best decision. But I think four years doing something is a sufficient amount of time."

Murphy had previously confirmed of season 4 that “It’s not contemporary. It’s either going to shoot in New Orleans or it’s going to shoot in Santa Fe.” The final ‘Coven’ shot will provide a much clearer picture of season 4, in which “Jessica Lange has always wanted to play a Marlene Dietrich figure, and now she gets to.”

Any of either Reese Witherspoon, Michelle Pfeiffer or Michael Chiklis would make for fitting additions to future 'American Horror Story' seasons, but what say you? Who would you like to see bolster the FX drama's star power in Jessica Lange's wake?
