Adopt-A-Beach Cleanup Removes 80,528 Pounds of Trash from Texas Beaches

Last weekend, over 5,000 volunteers got together on selected Texas beaches to pick up trash during the bi-annual Adopt-A-Beach cleanup around Texas. Put on by the Texas General Land Office, the cleanup takes place twice each year, with volunteers spending a few hours cleaning up garbage from Texas beaches, and this year was another big success.

Official totals for the event show 5,046 volunteers worked at 13 locations and picked up over 40 tons of garbage from 55 miles of Texas coastline. That's a pretty big number and consider the fact that the locations were limited in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.

Since the program began in 1986, over half a million volunteers have removed nearly 9,500 tons of garbage from beaches and coastline in the state.

The next Adopt-A-Beach cleanup is set for April 21st, 2018.
