Apparently, car burglaries are on the rise in Victoria. Especially in one area of town. According to VPD's Facebook page, items such as purses, wallets and even guns have been stolen from people's vehicles parked at their own homes. In all of the cases, the person left their car unlocked.

LOCK YOUR CARS PEOPLE! There are scumbags out there that would much rather steal from you than get a job. You can take steps to protect your property.

This is the post from Victoria Police Department on their Facebook page regarding the recent rash of burglaries in Victoria:

You know it's bad when you get a phone call from a patrol officer first thing in the morning. Our patrol officers working the 300 & 400 zones (north and northeast portions of the city) have been absolutely SLAMMED with calls for burglarized vehicles yesterday and already this morning.

Officer Danielle Turner tells me that all of the vehicles were unlocked. Several guns have been stolen from multiple vehicles, wallets, purses... All from vehicles parked at their homes overnight. People get busy and sometimes distracted. It happens, but it's happening too often and we're making it too easy.

Folks, let's spread the word and remind each other of these simple safety habits that could prevent you from being a victim. Lock your car. Hide or remove your things. -Sgt. G
