15 Year Old Boy Attacked by Shark on Texas Coast
A 15-year-old boy was airlifted to a hospital after he fought off a shark at Surfside beach yesterday afternoon.
It happened around 2:45pm in a section of the beach about three miles north from the town of Surfside.
A church group was out in the water and a 15-year-old boy from Needville was about waist-deep when he encountered a four-foot shark.
Freeport police say the teen was bitten twice, once on his left leg and once on his left hand. The teen was then transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening condition. Authorities say he was airlifted because of the nature of the injuries.
Authorities say this was the first shark attack to be reported at Surfside beach in more than a couple decades. However, on Father’s Day, a fisherman pulled an 8 ft Bull Shark out of the surf in waist deep water so if this is any indication, the sharks are coming to warmer, more shallow waters to feed and that spells danger for anyone swimming. Let’s face it, the Gulf of Mexico isn’t exactly the clearest body of water out there and sharks don’t usually attack humans just because but they sometimes mistake splashing as prey.
One good word of advice, be careful DUH! One sure fire way for Victoria residents to avoid a shark attack is to stick to the water parks, swimming pools and splash pads around the area….your risk of shark attack drastically decreases.
